Portrait of Erin (Elora) Nomura

Erin (Elora) Nomura

About the Artist
I’m a portrait photographer based in Southern California. My work focuses on simple, honest portraiture and the quiet presence that can emerge when someone is truly seen. I’m drawn to the subtle psychological depth of a face and the small moments that reveal something real about a person.

My approach is collaborative and intuitive. I try to create a calm space where people can relax and be themselves, allowing the portrait to unfold naturally rather than forcing it. I work with artists, entrepreneurs, and individuals who want images that feel authentic and lasting.

For me, photography is less about spectacle and more about attention. I’m interested in making portraits that feel intimate, thoughtful, and timeless—images that hold a sense of humanity and presence.

About the Work
These two portraits are of my grandmother, made during a time when her memory has begun to fade due to dementia. I photographed her through a vintage chandelier crystal, allowing the light to fracture and soften the image. The distortion felt honest to the experience—moments of clarity surrounded by blur and fragmentation. The photographs were shot on film and printed in the darkroom, a slower process that mirrors the care and attention the work requires. For me, these images are both a portrait and a quiet reflection on memory, presence, and the fragile beauty of someone you love slowly becoming harder to reach.
